Out-of-the-box, EnerHub is the easiest to deploy and most flexible MDM and data quality solution for the energy industry. Yet sometimes we surprise ourselves and clients with just how easy and frictionless an implementation can be. In April, the Stonebridge team implemented what we feel is one of the smoothest EnerHub projects to date. Why?
Our client operates more than 5,000 wells, primarily focused in the Haynesville Shale. The company is well positioned in the Gulf Coast LNG export supply chain and anticipates strong growth.
To support its operations, the E&P leverages a variety of technology across accounting, production, reserves, and well planning, including Enertia, ProCount, WellView, and Aries. However, it lacked a companywide data governance strategy for well and completions master data, resulting in duplicate, inconsistent, and incomplete metadata across systems and project databases.
As its operations grow in scale and complexity, the operator wanted to create golden records for wells and completions. Rather than attempting to create a master data warehouse, our client set out to find the right solutions that would support federated master data management. This decentralized MDM and data quality approach connects to systems of record across business functions where data is best managed in place by subject matter experts. In addition, the operator wanted to enforce corporate and industry data standards, including the PPDM unique well identifier (API 14).
The operator selected EnerHub, Stonebridge’s cloud-based data management solution boasting 50 pre-built connectors for the energy software ecosystem. Typically, these connectors allow EnerHub to integrate with around 70% of an energy company’s enterprise software, an impressive capability given the large number of solutions on the market that span ERP and energy software of all types. In this particular case, EnerHub did somewhat better than 70% by providing out-of-the-box connectors to 4 of the operator’s 5 core business systems. The fifth system is used to schedule drilling rigs and frac fleets, which was rapidly integrated leveraging EnerHub’s intuitive and low-code connection builder.
As anyone who has worked with energy software and project databases can attest, connectors are important but often only get a data manager in the ballpark. There are always unique data handling requirements that arise from client-specific implementation choices and customizations, not to mention software vintages and versions. That being said, EnerHub’s connection management capabilities accelerate the process, truly fitting the MDM platform to every client’s unique information landscape.
EnerHub also ships with a library of validation and business rules, allowing the client to pick and choose more than 30 data quality checks and quickly adapt to their own business situation. This enables the operator to monitor data quality by exception across 5 systems with data stewards in the loop who can respond and resolve any issues.
Rapid connectivity, data integration, and painless data quality setup—these partly explain why our most recent EnerHub implementation was so smooth. Complementing the technology piece is Stonebridge’s people first approach to project management. This ensures that we are aligning all of the moving parts to the organization and SMEs. It’s an approach that not only ensures best fit between technology, people, and processes, it earns trust along the way. This confidence in the ability of Stonebridge and EnerHub convinces even the most reluctant data owners to be a team player in the data management game. That trust also earns us the opportunity to assist clients again and again with their data management challenges.
Building on the success of well and completions data management, Stonebridge is returning soon for the next phase of the client’s governance roadmap. This will include creation of a meter master and expanding data quality checks to sites, routes, and facilities.
